WHY AMBASSADOR BASKETBALL LEAGUE?
The Filipinos’ love of sports especially basketball brought together friends. It started with just dribbling the ball and practice shooting. This group of young men used to hang out at Hilton Hotel’s basketball court for a friendly game or two. Even when they are playing tennis at Dantata & Sawoe courts, they still talk about basketball, the camaraderie – unity and harmony fostered while playing – made them more determined to forge a bond – love of sports.
Until an idea was formed – why not a Basketball Tournament? Here in Abuja? Lagos with more Pinoys and facilities at their disposal have their sportsfest regularly.
Here, all that need to be done is to organize. And these young men with a burning desire for a clean, healthy fun were galvanized into action.
During Ambassador Padalhin’s birthday celebration, he was approached and had him acquainted of this plan. And being another first under his wing, he even volunteered the use of their compound’s facility.
The Ambassador Basketball League was coined – aptly termed - more so as the OFWS aside from being ‘the modern heroes’ are the Philippines’ Ambassadors of Goodwill in whichever country they are.
Willi Brual of AGIP and Gilbert Bernados of Center Point Network (an IT Solution and Consultancy Services) conducted series of meetings and planning. Teams were formed and rules and regulations spelled out.
This year and for more years to come, the Basketball Committee hopes to continue in forging its mission of UNITY among Pinoys (and maybe in the near future with the inclusion of youths from all nations) residing in Abuja thru Sports. It hopes to enhance the physical and mental awareness – a sound mind in a sound body - not only for the players but also among spectators.

OFW Mabuhay ka!
Maiinit na naman ang panahon, ang sarap na namang uminom/kumain ng halo-halo, ice cream, sa palamig, ice candy at kung anu-ano pa para maalis ang ating pagkauhaw.
Hindi lang panahon ang mainit, pati sitwasyon political ay nakikisama rin…kabi-kabila ang pag aalsa ang nangyayari sa ibang bansa kung saan apektado ang ating mga kapatid na manggagawa. Ang Inang Kalikasan ay andyan din, maraming apektado sa ating kababayan.
Whew! Nakakapaso talaga!
Ngayon din ang panahon kung saan ginaganap ang mga gawaing pampalakasan…maging sa Pilipinas ay marami ang paliga ng basketball, volleyball atbp.
Dito sa Nigeria ay ganun din ang nangyayari…paliga ng Basketball at Volleyball sa Lagos…, Tennis sa Port Hartcourt.
Dito sa Abuja, marami tayong mga kapatid ang naglalaro ng basketball, bumabayad sila sa Hilton Hotel para lang maisakatuparan ang kanilang pagnanais na makalaro.
Dito nagsimula ang usapan na magkaroon tayo ng paliga ng basketball.
Bumuo ng komite, nagpulong-pulong hanggang sa makabuo ng isang plano na magkaroon ng paliga na tatawaging “Ambassador Basketball League” sapagka’t tayo pong mga OFWS ay talagang mga AMBASSADORS OF GOODWILL .
Sa tulong ng ating butihing Ambassador, pwede nating gamitin ang kanilang basketball court sa kanilang compound na maging panimulang lugar ng paliga.
Magsisimula ang paliga ng basketball sa darating na Linggo, ika-03 ng Abril at magtatapos sa ika-12 ng Hunyo, kaalinsabay sa pagdiriwang ng ating Araw ng Kalayaan.
Kaya mga kapatid na manggagawa at mga kaibigan, kayo po ay malugod naming inaanyayahan na makilahok sa aming gaganaping paliga ng basketball na magsisimula sa ika-03 ng Abril (ngayong Linggo na p o ito).
Ang programa po ay gaganapin sa bisinidad ng Lake View Apartment Estate sa ganap na ala-una ng hapon.
