BINGO BONANZA AND FOOD FAIR

FOR ONDOY AND PEPENG VICTIMS

Due to back-to-back typhoons that devastated the Philippines, the Philippine Embassy staged a Food Fair and Bazaar to raise funds for the victims. Generous people of Abuja and corporate bodies donated goods for this cause. The event presided over by the very energetic Charge d' Affaires, a.i Alex V. Lamadrid, took place last Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at the Embassy compound. It was a well-attended affair.

SEND-OFF FOR SR. RESURRECCION

HELLO AND GOODBYE (once more to another very good friend and spiritual sister)

Sr. Resurreccion MCST, the Mother Superior of the congregation at the Nunciature was given a send-off party at the Nunciature on the 23rd of October, 2009. She is going back to their home mission office. It was also a welcome party to Sr. Marilou.
Although Filipinos loved singing and dancing, it was a subdued affair; no merry-making in consonance with the atmosphere of grief, a very commendable trait of Pinoys who are sensitive to emotions; it was a day after the death of our beloved friend Ana Dador, who incidentally was always helping them in whatever preparation is needed in every event celebrated there.

After dinner, the Filipinos together with some guests went straight to the chapel to offer prayers to the soul of the departed.

However, on the 25th of October, 2009 (Sunday) a small group of friends gathered to give Sr. Resurreccion another send-off and a welcome to Sr. Marilou. Sr. Jacinta, who will join the congregation will travel with Sr. Res. She also attended the gathering together with her mother.

The Philippine Consul-General Alex V. Lamadrid was also present and so were the Pusong Pinoy Association officers.
The PPA Pres. Benjie Nadado gave a plaque of appreciation to the outgoing Mother Superior.

OBITUARY

It is with the heaviest hearts but with gratitude to our Lord Almighty that the passing away of our sister Ana Dador is announced. She passed away at 12:15 pm today 22nd of October 2009 at the National Hospital.

Ana Cabrera Dador is the wife of Nestor Dador of the Philippine Embassy.

Your prayers are requested.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

hi all.

during the bicam session, we gathered that the proposal for mandatory insurance went back as early as 2002. in 2004, the recruiters requested the poea governing board through the poea administrator to issue a resolution to effect mandatory insurance coverage for the ofws. poea said they cannot do it. to reaffirm its position, poea sought the legal opinion of the office of the solicitor general.

in May 2004, the Office of the Solicitor General said that the proposal for compulsory insurance for OFWs need not be mandatory and may be done only on voluntary basis. It went on to say that a careful study of the proposal would show that it may not exactly be advantageous to the OFWs.
